ArtFight: Round 4 - FINAL ROUND!

Journal Entry: Sun Feb 24, 2008, 10:06 PM
  • Mood: Triumph
  • Listening to: Aerosmith - "Hangman Jury"
  • Playing: FF XII, Wild Arms Alter Code F, FF VII, etc.
  • Eating: Better... But, could still eat healthier. o_o
  • Drinking: Diet Dr. Pepper
[link] - "Pink Houses" by John Mellencamp performed by The BaysicS (my brother Sean and me).

[link] - "I'll Get You" by The Beatles recorded by me using a karaoke version and home recording software. :D

[link] - "Because" by The Beatles recorded by me using the original track from Abbey Road as a basis. This song consists of 9 vocal tracks, all recorded by me. There are only 3 different harmonies. But, each one was sung three separate times. All of this was done so I could get a better understanding of George Harrison's harmonies, which are the hardest of all three to figure out. Needed to learn it 'cuz I'm in a Beatles cover band (currently unnamed) that plans to make this one of the first tunes we learn. Talk about jumpin' in head first. :P

I'll update this header whenever I get a new recording up just 'cuz I like to share the love. :)

Enjoy!

:headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang::headbang:

(Just, y'know... try and imagine that being said by the voiceover from Mortal Kombat or something. ;))

[link] <-That'll take ya right to the fight. ;)

This is it, folks! It's been a damn good fight for these two ladies. And, it's a pretty solid match-up, honestly. o_o I mean... Wow. Really. These two could cause some real property damage. :P

Vote for the winnah! :) It'll only take ya a second. You can even vote anonymously if you want.

This is gonna be a close one. I can feel it. :)

--------------------

For the record, I would like to make the following statement....

I.... REALLY HATE drawing backgrounds. >_<

Like... with a passion. o_o Especially once you start bringing 2 and 3 point perspective into the whole thing.

Mind you, after all this work, this page looks fantastic. But, 6 hours thus far on a three-progressive-panel page IN PENCIL just feels like a bit too much. >_< Still, it's my own fault. I'm being the perfectionist on this one.

But, dammit, it's gonna look great. ... Or ELSE!! *shakes fist threateningly at an unsurprisingly non-responsive comic page*

The thing is, I'm trying to incorporate more dynamic angles into my storytelling. It's important to me simply because I always want to try new things. The art in this issue is going to excel over the previous two issues. It HAS to because (minor spoiler alert), there's no real action in this issue. Tension? Yes. Action, no. So, to make up for fewer speed/action lines, I'm doing more tilted, awkward angles and more establishing shots to give a little more of a sense of drama. (With a touch of comedy to offset things a little.)

The sad part is, because it's taken me so long to figure out the layout correctly for this particular scene, I've barely gotten much done yet. I'm currently only on page 4. :\ Well... 4 down, 20 - 24 pages to go. :P

Maybe I'll try and sneak a little action in at the end. ;)

Anywho, that's all for now.

Vote! :D Please...? o_o

Seeya!

Since I haven't done it to you in a while, I figgered I'd drop by and badger you again with the following:

I finished a pic of Fate that I'm satisfied with (which is incredible for me) before you've finished the sketch in your gallery. :D

~JerzeyDragon:iconJerzeyDragon: Jan 20, 2008, 6:47:28 PM
That makes sense , I've picked up some how to draw books. I started drawing just over two years ago and that approach has been helpful. My style has just evolved from what ever techniques have been the easiest.
~CuddlyDemon:iconCuddlyDemon: Jan 12, 2008, 7:34:35 PM
Hey there, lazy bum. I just felt like peeking in on you again for the sake of doing it, because I believe everybody needs an occasional dose of annoyance in order to maintain balance in life.

That said, it's been so long since you said you'd draw Fate that she's no longer robotic. I did it just to spite you, too. (No, not really.) :D

Happy drawing/singing/whatever else it is you do.

Heh, perhaps I phrased that incorrectly. See, I DO use observation when I have to reference something. But, most of what I draw is actually from my own memory.

When I say I used reference books, I mean I learned by looking at other comic artists' styles (ex: John Byrne, Jim Lee, Arthur Adams). "Observation" in this case means that I looked at the way everyone else was drawing and tried to emulate their styles before moving on to my own. I actually don't use REAL observation nearly as often as I should. I bet I would have benefited greatly from an art class. At the moment, I just can't afford to take one. But, maybe in the not-too-distant future. :)

Hmmm, thats strange I go to an art class ,at my school and drawing from observation sounds like the thing they would suggest.

Have a merry Christmas and a Happy new year!

And keep working on your comic it looks freakin amazing!
:)
*Pegasus316:iconPegasus316: Dec 12, 2007, 11:26:49 PM
I managed to learn from reference books and just plain observation more than anything else.

Of course, the means that to most professionals, I do about 95% of my art completely incorrectly. But, hey, as long as somebody likes it, I can live with that. ;)
